In a speech to students in the Faculty of Media of the Broadcast Authority, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast discussed Western pressure on Syria, claiming that the underlying reason for the pressure was Syria’s frontline resistance against the Zionist’s regimes acts of aggression. According to Mehmanparast, the crisis in Syria was created to alleviate pressure on the Zionist regime, which has grown weak and is isolated due to its failure against the Islamic resistance. Mehmanparast also discussed plans by the Arab League and Security Council to resolve the crisis, claiming that after there was some progress with Kofi Annan’s plan, the acts of sabotage and terrorism in Syria only expanded, proving that the West and its regional allies believe that stability and security in Syria are not in their best interests. The Foreign Ministry spokesman discussed US and Zionist efforts to create a rift and tension in the region in order to undermine the revolutions. He further added that they are trying to foment dissent and instigate conflict between Arabs and Iran or between the Shiites and the Sunnis.
