With 275 Majlis members voting, 173 lawmakers voted in favor Ali Larijani to lead the ninth Majlis. His rival Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel received 100 votes. Seyed Mohammad-Hassan, Aboutorabi-Fard and Mohammad-Reza Bahonar were elected as the First and Second Deputy Speakers, respectively. Larijani, who headed the 8th Majlis also served as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), representative of the Supreme Leader in the SNSC, Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
