On Wednesday, Ali Akbar Velayati, the Supreme Leader’s Advisor for International Affairs and Chairman of the World Assembly for Islamic Awakening, met with a delegation of Egyptian revolutionaries visiting Tehran. At the meeting he stressed that the delegation’s visit could help establish a bridgehead for connections between the two countries. He added that even if diplomatic relations between Iran and Egypt are cut off for political reasons, the relationship between the two peoples will continue and be strengthened. In further remarks to the delegation, which includes the families of people killed during the uprising and Egyptian doctors, Velayati said that the Islamic world has 1.5 billion citizens, but no international organization represents this number suitably. He stressed that the a permanent representative of the Islamic world on the UN Security Council is the logical, minimal expectation of Muslims and this goal, and more, will be achieved before long.
