The location of the crash was showered with flowers. A number of families of the martyred passengers as well as military and civilian officials attended the ceremony. The warship, USS Vincennes, shot down an Iran Air Flight 655 passenger Airbus aircraft over the Persian Gulf on July 2, 1988.
