Senior IRGC Commander: NAM needs a new mechanism to enhance its role in the international arena

Deputy Chief of Joint Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces in charge of Basij (volunteer forces) and Defense Culture Brigadier General Mas’ud Jazayeri said, “The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) needs a new mechanism to enhance its role in the international arena.” Jazayeri stressed, “Holding a NAM summit in Tehran at a time when the Middle East and North Africa is facing an Islamic awakening (Iran’s term for “the Arab Spring”), events like the Occupy Wall Street Movement in the US, and there are popular protests in Europe, is very significant.” He said that hosting the 16^th NAM Summit in Iran is also highly significant because Western countries, led by the US, are constantly spreading propaganda about Iran’s international level.
