Director of the Maritime Industries Organization of the Iranian Defense Ministry, Mostafa Esbati, said that Iran is the world’s number one country in the production of high-speed boats and development of related capabilities. He said, “High-speed boats in foreign countries are only seen as racing vessels, but for us it goes back to the war with Iraq (1980-88) and the use of these boats by the Navy.” Esbati added that that the Defense Ministry believes that supporting research in this area is a very serious responsibility it shoulders. IRGCN Commander, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, said that speed boats and particularly the newly mass-produced missile-launching vessels, have granted high mobility and power to the IRGC Navy (IRGCN)) and made it a force to be reckoned with. “We emphasize that we have gained unique power in this field of naval defense. US warships currently have a maximum speed of 31 knots, while the Iranian vessels can travel twice as fast on average.” Speed boats play key role in Iran’s asymmetric warfare and are used in swarm attacks against superior ships such as aircraft carriers.
