Head of Iran’s Assembly of Experts: it is acceptable to issue a warning to the Supreme Leader

Ayatollah Mahdavi-Kani said, “Supervising the Supreme Leader is aimed to safeguard and protect him.” He added that this can sometimes be done using a warning, but respect and boundaries should be kept. According to Mahdavi-Kani, there is a need for consultations on the Supreme Leader’s performance. “If we want the [Islamic] system to be preserved, we should take consultations into consideration.” He added that Khomeini also made use of consultations. “He never said: ‘I have this opinion of my own,’ and [always] stressed that it is necessary to consult specialists.
