Majlis member withdraws complaint against cartoonist

Tuesday, 15 May 2012

Seyyed Ahmad Lotfi, Majlis member for Arak and Komijan (central Iran), filed a complaint with the court following the publication of his caricature by a weekly. As a result, the cartoonist (Mahmud Shokray’i) was sentenced to 25 lashes. After the sentence was handed down, Seyyed Ahmad Lotfi said, “Following my complaint against Amir due to false statements about me, the court sentenced the cartoonist to 25 lashes. As I am not against the publication of the caricature and just meant to denounce the use of immoral methods in attributing false things to other people, I would like to withdraw my complaint against the artist.”
