Soltaniyeh: IAEA reiterates that Iran’s nuclear activity is for peaceful purposes

Monday, 28 May 2012

In an interview with Fars News Agency, Iran’s permanent representative to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltaniyeh addressed the IAEA’s latest report on Iran’s nuclear activity, claiming that the IAEA again declared that Iran’s nuclear activity was for peaceful purposes. According to Soltaniyeh, this means that Iran is not imposing obstacles to the inspectors. He further stressed the positive assessment of the Secretary General of the IAEA during his visit to Iran and his meeting with Jalili, Abassi and Salehi, emphasizing that this proves Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA. Sontaniyeh discussed recent reports of 27% uranium production in the Fardow site, adding that “as noted in the Secretary General’s report, this is a technical and professional issue and IAEA experts are currently conducting professional talks on this matter.” Soltaniyeh is claiming that these technical issues are being politicized by Western media that is trying to endanger the constructive efforts and professional work being carried out by the IAEA.
