A senior Iranian diplomat who asked to remain anonymous announced that the Iranian Embassy in Rabat Amman has submitted at least three requests to the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to set a date for a visit by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Amir-Abdollahian. According to this source, these requests have been greeted with conspicuous apathy in Rabat Amman, and no answer has been received. The purpose of the visit would be to lay the groundwork for a visit to Jordan by the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Akbar Salehi. If Jordan agrees to Abdollahian’s visit, he will meet with senior Jordanian officials to discuss regional issues, the situation in Syria and bilateral relations.
