Iranian dairy industry close to bankruptcy

Thursday, 31 May 2012

According to reports published by Mehr News, the costs incurred by manufacturers of dairy products, especially milk, have increased significantly. The price of raw milk is particularly high, meaning that producing dairy products is very expensive and problematic for manufacturers. Indeed, they claim that in current conditions, producing dairy products is not profitable. However halt production would destroy the dairy industry. The CEO of one factory said that the purchase price of milk is currently lower than the production cost and this is an economic problem for the producers. He noted that even the plans by the Organization for Commerce and Industry to reduce the damage to factories have not been successful. He added that the problems of the last few months have also put an end to exports. He called on the government to develop a precise plan to grant assistance packages to these facilities.
