Foreign Minister: Islamic Awakening cannot be contained

Wednesday, 6 June 2012

Ali Akbar Salehi Salehi told the conference on the Islamic Awakening and the late Imam Khomeini’s movement, “The greatest achievement of the developments in certain Arab countries is that US and Western plots in the region have been foiled… The reality is that these developments are not small flames that can be extinguished, but rather a devastating storm of public demands in the Arab world, which have their roots in Islamic beliefs and the model of Iran’s revolution.” The conference was held at the Foreign Ministry’s Institute for Political and International Studies, two days after the 23rd anniversary of Khomeini death. Iranian Foreign Minister Salehi also said, “We are witnessing the foundations of the occupying regime [Israel] become shakier than at any other time, and the hegemonistic powers’ pipe dream of the establishment of a Greater Middle East has not come true… The awakened people in the region are seeking emancipation from authoritarianism, corruption and subservience to the US and the Zionist regime. Countries seeking to establish global domination should be aware that they will not be able to influence the future of people in the pursuit of freedom and justice.” Salehi added that one major factor in the success of the awakening movement in Iran was the belief in constructive and effective role of religion in contemporary developments.
