Brigadier General Hussein Zolfaqari, Commander of the Iranian Border Guards, said that the tightening of control on unofficial routes may force smugglers to try new methods, such as concealing contraband within the body while traveling official routes. He said that responding to this change requires the use of female guards to search women at official checkpoints. Zolfaqari added that women are not currently used as illegal drug couriers, but this could happen in the future.
