On Tuesday, Shirollah Dargahi, the grandfather of imprisoned student activist Arash Sadeghi, was released on bail. He was held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison for several days on suspicion of propaganda against the regime for writing a letter to an interrogator who questioned his grandson. While in prison, Dargahi was not permitted to meet with his grandson, who is on a hunger strike in solidarity with jailed blogger and human rights activist Hossein Ronaghi Maleki. Despite news that Maleki had stopped his strike, Sadeghi said that he would continue until he received the news directly from Maleki’s family. Sadeghi was active in the campaign of opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi and was arrested during the post-election events. His mother died of a heart attack when security forces broke into their home.
