Ali Akbar Velayati, the Supreme Leader’s Senior Advisor on International Affairs hailed the election of the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate, Mohammed Morsi as Egypt’s first post-revolution president and described his presidency as a development “aimed at reviving Islamic values.” Velayati reaffirmed Iran’s resolve to promote relations and said, “The commonalities of Iran and the (re)emerging Egypt are greater than ever; therefore, this victory is considered as the dawn of a grand victory in the entire Arab and Muslim world…” He also warned of the enemies’ plots to hinder the tide of Islamic Awakening (Arab Spring) in the Arab world and reinforced Iran’s resolve to lend support to the efforts aimed at reviving Islamic values.
