Iran arrests two men on charges of spying for Azerbaijan; Iranian ambassador to Baku recalled

Thursday, 5 July 2012

Iran claims that the two men received instructions from the Azeri intelligence service, MTN. During interrogation, they reportedly admitted that their mission was to contact the opposition inside Iran, mobilize dissidents and work to promote separatism (i.e., encourage the annexation of the Iranian province of Azerbaijan to the country Azerbaijan). According to Iranian sources, two used intelligence methods that can be identified as Israeli.

Iranian ambassador to Baku, Mohammad-Bagher Bahrami, met with the Azerbaijani President to mark the end of his diplomatic mission.
