FM: Iran ready to meet with Syrian dissidents

Monday, 16 July 2012

Ali Akbar Salehi said that “Iran is ready to meet with Syrian dissidents and invite them to Iran in a bid to prepare the ground for talks between them and [the Syrian] government.” Salehi added that no foreign prescription or government should be imposed on the Syrians. He expressed the hope that the problems in Syria would be resolved through “cooperation between Iran, the UN and certain regional states, and that an effective step will be taken to solve Syria’s problems.” The Foreign Ministry Spokesman also reiterated Iran’s readiness to help resolve the Syrian crisis through dialogue, saying that “Iran is ready to play an appropriate role in bringing stability and security to Syria” to prevent the crisis “quickly spreading to the whole region.”
