Ahmadinejad: media must be noble and tolerant

Wednesday, 8 August 2012

On Journalist Day, Iranian President Ahmadinejad said that media people in Iran must fly the banner of justice, tolerance and patience. “I suggest to myself, colleagues and all authorities that media is not merely for publicizing a belief or freedom of speech, but it is real freedom of speech. A journalist is a fellow citizen and if he criticizes an official, he should not be subject to penalty.” “Journalist Day” in Iran marks the death anniversary of IRNA journalist Mahmoud Saremi, who was murdered along with eight Iranian diplomats, when Taliban gunmen broke into Iranian consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif on August 8, 1998.
