For the first time since Islamic Revolution, Iranian DM visits Iraq

Ahmad Vahidi, Iranian Defense Minister, conducted an official visit to Iraq, during which he met with Iraqi President Jalal Talabni to explore avenues for the expansion of the relations. This is the first visit by an Iranian Defense Minister to Iraq since the victory of the Islamic Revolution. Vahidi also met with his Iraqi counterpart, Sadun Farhan al-Dulaymi, and said, “Cooperation between the two countries’ military sectors will result in consolidation, stability and security of the region.” Vahidi added that a defense cooperation agreement was signed with Iraq. “This agreement is based on the previous agreements… Both sides put emphasis on expanding and deepening defense relations… The implementation of other agreements would strengthen ties in other spheres…”
