On the third day of the Defenders of the Velayat Skies 4 drills, a Shalamcheh missile was fired from the Mersad missile systems and successfully hit a Karrar drone. It is Iranian-made medium- and short-range missile that is resistant against electronic warfare and equipped with the most advanced technologies in the world.
Shalamcheh is a Mach 3 mid-range missile that can also be used as a short-range air defense system. Iranian air defense units also targeted Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with the S-200 anti-aircraft missile system on the third day of Defenders of Velayat Skies 4 air defense drills. On the second day of the exercises on Tuesday, the air defense units fired a Hawk missile at a drone and destroyed it.
The missile was launched by a mobile air defense system on a missile-launching vehicle. Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli announced that Iran had optimized the mid-range Hawk air defense missiles and planned to test the domestically produced version of the missile during the drills.
“The Hawk missiles, which are good for medium altitudes have been optimized and produced locally in Iran.”
