Friday, 4 January 2013

Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli, Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, said that “laboratory tests” are underway on subsystems of the long-range Bavar (Belief) 373 air-defense system, which is the Iranian version of the sophisticated Russian-made S-300 long-range air-defense missile system. “The status of this project is good, and the Defense Ministry and Khatam al-Anbia are pursuing it.” In September 2012, Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi announced that “The works pertaining to the design and construction of the (S-300 air defense system) system are underway, and the relevant information will be released soon, God-willing.” Farzad Esmayeeli said that Khamenei, the Supreme Leader (who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces), wants high mobility for the S-200 air-defense shields… “Continue this trend and do the same thing with the S-200 missile system as well.”
