Six religious nationalist activists sent an open letter to Khamenei addressing the possibility of talks with the US. The six emphasized that current circumstances are not suitable for these talks and do not serve the interests of Iran. They argued if talks are held at the present time with the US, the sides will not have equal standing, and suggested that Iran reject the date of the talks, and before they commence talks, they should make the necessary arrangements to do so and then return to the negotiating table with national might. They purport that arrangements necessary are the existence of totally free elections and the election of president by the true will of the public, the suspension of uranium enrichment, the release of all political prisoners and the granting of freedom to the parties and civil organizations, and changing the current military security atmosphere to one of democracy and national solidarity. They say only in this case will it be possible to hold talks from a position of strength, while protecting the national interest.
