Wednesday, 9 January 2013

In a meeting with the heads of the faculties of medicine across Iran as well as managers of the medical and health sectors, President Ahmadinejad said that the health and medical sectors require urgent restructuring. According to Ahmadinejad, this sector has not been operating smoothly and reforms are needed. Ahmadinejad further stated that medical expenses for the top eight percentile in society were extremely high and appealed to the managers and officials in the field, saying that action must be taken to reduce medical expenses. He later emphasized the need for independent manufacturing of new medication and achievement of independence in this area, adding that the government is prepared to grant the necessary assistance in this area. Addressing the import of raw material for pharmaceuticals, Ahmadinejad claims that these materials can be produced in Iran, stating that this does not mean that pharmaceutical imports should be completely stopped, but that the matter has become a tool in the hands of Iran’s enemies in order to pressure the nation.
