Highlights from weekly press conference by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman:
- Scope of foreign trade between Iran and Africa – African countries have tremendous potential for economic cooperation. Iranian cooperation with these countries has benefited both the African countries and Iran. The scope of Iranian relations with Africa was regrettably unsatisfactory, but visits and trips such as the one being taken by the Foreign Minister to Africa will generate positive results and will lead to increased trade and expanded cooperation. We place special trust in future ties with this continent.
- Possible visit of IAEA delegation to Parchin military site – During the recently concluded talks between Iranian representatives and IAEA, technical discussions were held regarding the presentation of guarantees and official recognition of Iran’s nuclear activities for peaceful purposes. If a complete agreement is reached between us and the IAEA that includes formal recognition of all of our activities, and we can benefit from nuclear energy and a full fuel cycle, we are prepared to do what is necessary to alleviate any concerns (implying possible visits to the Parchin site).
- Situation in Syria – He assessed Bashar Assad’s proposal, saying that Iran expresses its full support of the plan introduced by President Assad. He added that some countries in the region might have different stances on this matter, and as such, talks are required to bridge any gaps. Western countries that support the Zionist regime (Israel) and armed groups in Syria are trying to stir up tension in the region. We recommend that all countries in the region be aware of Zionist plots.
- Secretary of Supreme Council for National Security for India and Afghanistan – Iran has shared interest and concerns with these countries, and we are exploring various resolutions together. This trip will be extremely successful and beneficial for our national and security interests.
