Level of Iran’s participation in OIC conference unclear

Thursday, 10 January 2013

Mojtaba Amani, head of Tehran’s interests section in Cairo, said in an interview for the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Alawsat that it is still unclear at what level Iran will participate in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Conference next month in Cairo, but stressed that Iran would like to send its highest ranking official to the conference. Incidentally, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has not yet sent an invitation of any kind to the President of Iran. If the Iranian President does indeed attend, it will be the first visit of an Iranian president to Egypt since the Iranian Islamic Revolution.
