Iranian Oil Ministry Spokesman, Alireza Nikzad, announced the construction of a pipeline to carry gas between Iran, Iraq and Syria, to be called the Friendship Pipeline. The line will stretch from the Asaluyeh region up to the Iran-Iraq border. Part of the work involved in laying the line has already begun. In the near future a trilateral meeting will take place in Baghdad between Iran, Iraq and Syria to plan the procedures required to continue construction of the line from Iraq to Syria. He stressed that the pipeline would also permit the export of gas from Iran to additional Muslim countries such as Jordan and Lebanon. Nikzad added that the construction of the Friendship Pipeline was recently completed on the section between Asaluyeh and Iranshahr, and would soon be completed as far as the Pakistani border. He said that gas exports from Iran to Pakistan would begin in another year.
