Tehran’s temporary Friday prayer leader, Imam Ayatollah Mukhdi Karmani, called on the Majlis to combat the implications and effects of the Chaharshanbe Soori events (fire-lighting festivities in the Zoroastrian tradition that take place in the streets of Iran on the last Wednesday of the Persian year and are very popular). He called these events “pagan” festivals that must be eradicated.
