IRGC introduces “logical engineering of the elections”

Monday, 14 January 2013

In an interview with the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), the Supreme Leader’s representative to the IRGC, Hojatoleslam Ali Saeedi, discussed the condition of the two main streams in Iran ahead of the elections, claiming that the reformists are subject to a type of paradox, and conservatives needed to act to achieve unity. According to Saeedi, conservatism principlism is a stream and ideology, rather than a party. A principlist conservative is someone who relies on Islamic values and wants to implement Islamic law. Conservatism should not be embodied in one figure, and improper behavior of some conservatives should not be used to disqualify the entire conservative stream. He later emphasized that claims of IRGC involvement in the elections were baseless. The IRGC is beyond parties and organizations, and does not waste itself on one specific party or individual. The IRGC supports ideas and supports conservatism as an ideology and the concept of returning to pure Islam, rather than a party. Saeedi further stated, “I, as the head of the Supreme Leader’s representation in the IRGC, declare that IRGC soldiers have a healthy logic, and the IRGC will never actively and tangibly intervene in an election. The IRGC only sets the framework and criteria, and this does not mean intervention in the elections. The IRGC’s role is “logical engineering of the elections.”
