Advisor to the Supreme Leader on International Affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, said in an interview that unity can be created in the Islamic world in various forms and that the common interest of the entire Islamic world requires unity to face common enemies. Any rift and dispute in the Islamic world must be resolved. Velayati expressed Tehran’s concern over the fate of Muslims around the world and stressed that Iran supports all Muslims, Shiites and Sunnis alike. He also discussed events in Syria, saying that the main reason behind Iran’s focus on the Syrian issue is to prevent the fall of the line of resistance against Israel. If Syrian President Bashar al-Assad falls, the resistance line against Israel will break up. He further added that Iran believes in reform in Syria based on the people’s demands without violence, and stressed that Bashar Assad is Iran’s red line.
