Iran’s reaction to alleged Israeli attack on Syria

Friday, 1 February 2013

  • Don’t rely too strongly on Patriot missile systems Hussein Amir-Abdollahian, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs said that the Israeli attack on Syria clearly demonstrated that foreign-sponsored militants and Israel pursue the same goals with regard to Syria. He called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, to adopt an effective and practical measure against the attack. Amir-Abdollahian added, “Parties that have always taken tough stances on Syria should now take serious measures and decisive positions on this invasion by Tel Aviv and place regional security high on their list of priorities.” He also advised Israeli officials not to rely too strongly on the Patriot missile systems deployed in the region, stressing that their ineffectiveness was proven in Israel’s “eight-day aggression against the Gaza Strip in November 2012″ (operation Pillar of defense).
  • Any violation of territorial integrity committed by Israel must be addressed The Foreign Ministry Spokesman said, “The operation conducted by the aggressive Zionist (Israeli) forces… shows that this regime seeks to create instability and insecurity in regional countries as well as weaken the resistance movement… We had previously warned that those creating tension, insecurity and instability in Syria are in fact voluntarily or involuntarily laying the ground for more violations and aggressions by the Zionist regime. Regional countries should be aware of the main danger in the region. They are trying to create a rift between Islamic countries in the region. They are also trying to create sedition and unrest in countries that are on the frontline of the resistance against the occupying Zionist regime (Israel)… We condemn this attack and believe that the territorial integrity of countries should be respected by all in the region, and any violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity committed by the Zionist regime must be addressed.”
