The flight to Tehran by Air Memphis, a private carrier, had eight Iranian passengers, including two diplomats. The Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister said earlier that charter flights between Egypt and Iran will begin in the coming weeks, linking Upper Egyptian tourist destinations of Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel with the Islamic Republic. Egypt and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding in March promoting cooperation between the two countries in the tourism sector. The flight, which was carrying the Iranian charge d’affaires and his family to Tehran, will then fly back to Aswan airport. Scheduled charter flights between Iran and Egypt will be announced soon, but no date has yet been set.
