Khomeini’s funeral ceremony registered in 2012 Guinness World Records

Friday, 5 April 2013

The funeral ceremony of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, stands as a record in the 2012 Guinness World Records as a ceremony with the largest number of participants. The number of people who took part in the funeral service exceeded 10,200,000, comprising one sixth of Iran’s population in 1989. The 2012 Guinness World Records has twice registered the name of Imam Khomeini as a popular leader; one for the massive welcoming ceremony for him at the time of his arrival in Iran from Paris (after the victory of the Islamic Revolution), and the other for his largely attended funeral ceremony.
