The ball is in Iran’s court

Tuesday, 9 April 2013

Former Director General for Africa in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote an article following the recent round of nuclear talks titled, “Negotiations Counter to Optimism” that referred to the Almaty 2 talks were a “failure.” He maintained that “Counter to all of the optimism that had been created from the Almaty 1 Nuclear Negotiations (February 26-27) and the (apparent) bridging of the gap between the Iranian and P5+1 perceptions and the hope that the negotiations were able to be an introduction for progress in the next negotiations, the Almaty 2 negotiations were a failure, and it can be said that hope for continuing negotiations, to an extent, dissipated.” He concludes saying “given the results, sanctions will still be applied, and, in this process, time is completely against Iran and, in my view, the Westerners are in no hurry to compromise… My belief is that, presently, the ball is in Iran’s court.”
