An opinion poll conducted by Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) shows that the President’s supporters currently hold the lead over other potential presidential contenders ahead of the June election. ISNA reported that 20,150 respondents were asked, “In your opinion, the candidate of which group will be more welcomed by people during the (upcoming) presidential election?” The poll put Ahmadinejad’s supporters on top of the list with 41% of the votes, followed by the reformists with 33% of the votes. Principlists won (only) 23% of the votes. ISNA clarified that due to the low number of participants, the opinion poll could not serve as an indication of the final results and that poll was conducted to encourage high turnout.
