Iran denies reports of slowdowns in Internet and access to Internet services

Friday, 19 April 2013

In recent days, there have been reports of extensive disruptions of the Internet in Iran and Internet access to different websites. Most users in Iran have reported they are unable to reach popular Internet services such as Yahoo, Google, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail, and messenger services such as  Yahoo! and Google Talk. The disruptions are not only on these sites, and there are also problems with access to the portals of banks and different news sites. Those responsible are keeping silent on this issue, while the head of public relations of the Iranian Communications Infrastructure Company has rejected the reports and allegations of communications infrastructure network disruptions and interference in access to the websites, saying that according to reports, until now no disruption has been observed in the communications infrastructure network. He claims that there may be disruptions related to the disconnection from VPN access that some illegal surfers have been using to bypass the filtering system.
