Frashid Yazdani, an Iranian children’s rights activist, said that over the last six years, there were 85,200 cases of divorce in Iran among young people under the age of 19 in Iran, with 4,000 of the cases involving girls under the age of 14. According to Registry Office data, in the five years between 2006 and 2011, there were 616,000 divorces in Iran, with 81,500 cases being those of girls under the age of 19, and 7,700 were associated with boys under the age of 19. During those years, there were 1,000,859 cases of marriage among young people under the age of 19, with 1,000,589 of them being girls and the rest boys. Over those years, 201,200 cases were recorded of marriage involving children under the age of 15.
