Baztab, site supporting Rafsanjani is filtered

Wednesday, 1 May 2013

A website supporting former President Rafsanjani and critical of the government, is down. Baztab has been filtered in the past for allowing comments critical of Ali Khamenei. Baztab‘s report earlier this week that Ahmadinejad had a tape, which included his conversation with some authorities who told him that the real number of votes he received in the June 2009 presidential elections was 16 million, although they decided to announce another number, 24 million, in order to “remove any assumption of vote-rigging and to portray the variation in ballot counts (Ahmadinejad’s votes versus Mir Hossein Mousavi) high.” The report, which was immediately removed from the website, added that Ahmadinejad had insisted that the real number should be announced. It said that Ahmadinejad threatened to release the tape if the President’s close aide, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, is screened by the Guardian Council and prevented from run for president. The presidential Public Relations Department described the reports as “unfounded and false,” designed to “cause tension” ahead of the upcoming elections.
