Secretary General of the Islamic Society of Engineers Mohammad Reza Bahonar called the approval of the candidacy Saeed Jalili “eye-raising” and claims that this move by the Guardian Council was extremely courageous. Bahonar clarified that approval of Jalili’s candidacy alongside disqualification of the candidacy of several officials such as Mr. Saidi-kia, who had been minister in four terms, raised questions. The fact that he registered only in the final hours before the deadline created the impression that Jalili was essentially the final choice of the regime and officials. The broadcast authority also intensively and illogically reported the brief negotiations between Ashton and Jalili, creating the impression among the public as if the next peak was already established. Citizens must not form the impression that the regime and senior officials are supporting any particular candidate.
