A member of the Majlis Planning and Budget Committee said that setting two different prices for foreign currency increases corruption in the economic system and called on presidential candidates to present their economic plans clearly, accurately and transparently. Tavakoli added that an oil-dependent economy increases Iran’s problems every day and this cannot help, justify and streamline the economy. He further stated that had he not been ill, he would have submitted his candidacy for president and would have primarily focused on the economy. Tavakoli claimed that in recent years, the President has been performing weakly in the economic arena and mentioned that at the height of the foreign currency crisis, Ahmadinejad felt it necessary to travel to South America to attend Chavez’s funeral. He confirmed that the sanctions are affecting inflation and tension in the foreign currency market, but added that senior officials in Iran have failed to act properly according to well-defined plans. Tavakoli called on the next government to act properly in order to restore stability and calm to the Iranian markets within two years.
