Hojjatoleslam Mojtaba Zolnur, the Supreme Leader’s representative to the IRGC, referred to the withdrawal of some of the candidates from the presidential race and said that the best thing conservative candidates could do would be to unite and choose one candidate to represent them. He added that Velayati, Qalibaf and Jalili should understand that they must unite. The political insight and interests of the conservative movement and the line of the Imam and the Revolution require these three to unite and present a single united candidate. He expressed the hope that this would happen as soon as possible, so that the selected candidate will be elected president with a high voter turnout, which would strengthen him. IDB note: Among the conservatives (Mohammad Baqer-Qalibaf, Ali Akbar Velayati, and Saeed Jalili) there is a growing fear that the vote will be split between them, after the reformists have closed ranks around Hassan Rouhani.
