At an election rally at a mosque in the city of Qom, Ali Akbar Velayati said that the Iranian people will prove on election day that despite existing problems, they support the Islamic Revolution. He went on to add that in every city he visits during this period he hears about young people’s unemployment, unbearable inflation rates and cost of living, the reluctance of young people to start a family because of economic problems, etc. He stressed that a government headed by him would work towards a fundamental solution to the economic problems, and would also deal with Iran’s global concerns. As well as solving these problems, his government would resolutely protect Iran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and would stand firm against any demands in a sensible way. We must help the Iranian people find its way in the global arena through sensible behavior, while maintaining the values of the Islamic Revolution, so that Iranian’s may live and progress. We will open up relations with the world and reduce the sanctions. We will not permit resolution after resolution to be passed against us. The sanctions are not just a worthless piece of paper. It is the duty of our diplomatic corps to speak to the world in the global arena in a language that the world understands while maintaining our interests, from a position of respect.
