In an interview with Asriran, Sadeq Zibakalem said, “Ahmadinejad is satisfied with Rafsanjani’s happiness: according to some testimony, Ahmadinejad apparently preferred Jalili among the six final candidates, and the least worst option from his perspective was Qalibaf. Sadeq Zibakalem believes, though, that in light of Ahmadinejad’s behavior towards Rafsanjani, Ahmadinejad felt the long arm of the former president well, based on the saying that “God’s stick does not make noise as it approaches, but once it strikes you, there is no cure,” and he is therefore interested in compensating Rafsanjani somewhat by demonstrating his happiness with Rouhani’s victory. Zibakalem emphasizes that in his opinion, Rouhani’s election was the least bothersome option for Ahmadinejad. Ahmadinejad is pleased with the election of anyone chosen by Hashemi. Ahmadinejad undoubtedly prefers Rafsanjani’s representative than the other conservative representatives.
