Araqchi added the news about appointment of a new group was a misunderstanding of Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi’s remarks. He added that the Foreign Minister, by talking about a new group, meant the groups that have been formed by Hassan Rouhani to accelerate the transitional process of upcoming government responsibilities. He also stressed that Mr. Rouhani will make a decision on the formation of a new nuclear team at an appropriate time.
Salehi said at a joint press conference with the Foreign Minister of Tajikistan that President-Elect Hassan Rouhani had appointed a new team to examine continuing negotiations with the 5+1 nuclear group, adding that holding the next round oftalks with the 5+1 group is the responsibility of Dr. Rouhani.
“Regarding the negotiations of the P5+1 group, this is the job of Dr. Rouhani… He needs to make a decision as to when we weill be prepared for the next meeting with the P5+1… We need to wait a couple of weeks to determine where and when the meeting will be held… Rouhani has now appointed a group and that group is now looking into the matter.”
Dr. Rouhani has not yet announced the names of his new team. It is assumed that Rouhani will appoint some members of the previous nuclear negotiating team that he himself headed. It should be noted that some official Iranian sites have removed Salahi’s remarks on the anticipated new appointments to the nuclear negotiating team.
