NSFPC Chairman: “Wrong actions and policies” by Muslim Brotherhood led to their downfall

Friday, 5 July 2013

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of the  Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee (NSFPC), said that the ouster of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and the arrest of senior Muslim Brotherhood (MB) members were rooted in the MB’s “wrong actions and policies.” Boroujerdi said the first mistake made by the MB was to think that by removing Hosni Mubarak from power they would achieve a revolution. “Naturally, there is an extensive political, intelligence, and security mechanism behind an individual such as Mubarak. The MB’s first mistake was to think that by removing one person from power, while keeping the security, intelligence, and military structure in place, they would achieve their goal… (MB also) failed to deliver on their promise of resolving economic problems and livelihood issues of the Egyptian people as well as transforming (Egypt’s) foreign policy… Mubarak regime’s policies were dependent on America. It was expected to see major policy shift after Morsi took office. Previous problems, however, continued to exist. These issues included the blocking of Rafah crossing (into Gaza) and continuation of previous foreign policies regarding regional developments and relations with Iran… The continuation of such policies led to the recent developments in Egypt.” Boroujerdi said that Saudi Arabia was involved in the events. “The Saudi King was the first person to convey congratulations, and this indicates that Saudi Arabia supports this move.”
