Basij member: Killed in action defending Shiite shrine in Syria

Tuesday, 9 July 2013

A Basij member from Khuzestan Province (Arab minority), Seyyed Mehdi Musavi, recently died in a clash with “armed criminals and agents of the global arrogance (imperialism)” and was buried on July 8 in Ahvaz. Mehdi Musavi was killed in Syria while “defending Zaynab Shrine (Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque in Damascus is one of the most holiest places for Shiites and pilgrimage sites).” Provincial officials, clerics, military and police commanders attended his funeral. Zaynab was the third child of Ali (first Shiite Imam) and Fatimah, and resembles sacrifice, pity and strength (“Peace be upon you, O’ daughter of him (Ali) who struck with the sword of two blades” – proverb traditionally recited to obtain divine blessing while visiting her shrine).
