Khamenei: In June 2009 some people drove Iran to the edge

Monday, 22 July 2013

Khamenei referred in a meeting with Ahmadinejad and his cabinet to the newly elected government, saying that the “appearance of new elements, views, innovations and tastes on the political stage, which involves a shift in power, is a great opportunity which should be used well.” He condemned the June 2009 post-election unrest and said, “Thankfully, the transition of power in Islamic Iran has always been calm and happy, with the exception of 2009, when some people committed a major error and drove the country to the edge.” He praised the performance of outgoing President Ahmadinejad’s government and said, “Each group should have a constructive view of the previous group. It will be very valuable if the next government shows the same level of, or even much more, activity and enthusiasm.” Khamenei added, “The correct course of the revolution and the country in all fields is manifested in the views of the Imam (Khomeini); there is no need to rethink that course… Of course, sometimes there are incorrect interpretations of Imam (Khomeini)’s views; this is bad and dangerous… The course laid out by the Imam has to play a substantial role in Iran’s macro- and micro- management policies.” Khamenei repeated his motto for the current Iranian year - “Year of Political and Economic Epic” - saying that “the economy and the country’s continued scientific progress should top the agenda of all officials… Economic epic was part of this year’s motto. We hope that just like the political epic (presidential election) was fulfilled, the economic epic will also materialize through the diligence of the authorities.”
