US congressmen’s letter to Obama: Small but positive step

Monday, 29 July 2013

Kazem Jalali, a ,member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee (NSFPC), welcomed the letter sent by the US congress to Obama on the start of talks with Iran’s President-Elect Hassan Rouhani. However, “The letter by 131 US congressmen, including 17 Republicans, seems to be a small step, although it was positive. It seems that if the Westerners continue the same trend, they will begin showing some signs of realism, and of course, the Westerners should understand this fact that the Iranian nation is the side which distrusts the other side.” Alaeddin Boroujerdi, NSFPC Chairman, said that the Majlis will study the letter, due to US officials’ instability in decision-making.” He explained that some time ago, members of the US Congress Foreign Relations Committee urged Obama to question the (results of the) presidential election in Iran and impose new sanctions against it… (and then) US congressmen’s changed approach writing a letter to Barack Obama to ask for negotiations with Iran in a short period of time.”
