IRGC and Basij members killed in Syria

Tuesday, 6 August 2013

Javan (affiliated with the IRGC) published photos of IRGC and Basij members killed in Syria. It reports that they were “defending Zaynab Shrine” (Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque in Damascus is one of the holiest places for Shiites and an important pilgrimage site). Zaynab was the third child of Ali (first Shiite Imam) and Fatimah, and symbolizes sacrifice, pity and strength (“Peace be upon you, O’ daughter of him (Ali) who struck with the sword of two blades” – proverb traditionally recited to obtain divine blessing while visiting her shrine).
