Ahmadinejad government undermined Iran’s oil production

Thursday, 8 August 2013

Sharq (reformist) editorial titled “Oil and Diplomacy in Rouhani’s Cabinet” by Javid Qorbanughalu, a “senior foreign policy expert” maintains that the last eight years under Ahmadinejad administration undermined Iran’s oil production and processing capacities. “The natural gas region of Assaluyeh has pretty much been closed, and a small country like Qatar, with a population under 2 million people, extracts more than 10 times as much from the shared natural gas fields in South Pars. Can a greater threat be imagined for Iran than these issues?” He says that Rouhani’s proposed cabinet members, Mohammad-Javad Zarif for foreign minister and Bijan Namdar Zanganeh for the oil ministry, are vital for Iran to be able to improve its foreign relations and for the oil industry to sustain Iran’s development.
