Political prisoner Anvar Hossein Panahi released on bail

Iranian political prisoner Anvar Hossein Panahi was released on bail from the central prison in Sanandaj after six years behind bars. Panahi was first arrested in November of 2007 and held in the intelligence office of Gharaibeh for six months without any official charges. In the spring of 2008, he was charged with “enmity against god and acting against national security” and sentenced to death. In March 2009, Panahi’s death sentence was commuted by the appellate court of Kurdistan province to a six-year sentence.
